Dedicated to R/C slope soaring in Santa Barbara, California

Santa Barbara -area R/C Slope Soaring Sites:

Important: practice "leave no trace" R/C soaring. Access to these sites is a privilege, not a right. Treat them with respect.

Ellwood

Ellwood is the most reliable coastal slope soaring site, though the lift is usually pretty light - 8-10mph is common. SW / WSW is the best direction.

The Ruins

The Ruins aka Knapp's Castle has the biggest lift, and takes the typical afternoon NW breeze that blows over the San Marcos Pass. Nearby spots allow flight on N (clearing winds after a winter storm) and NE (sundowner / Santa Ana winds) as well.

More Mesa

More Mesa is good on a S wind, though it's a popular paragliding spot so you'll need to exercise caution.

SE Bowl

The SE Bowl offers good soaring during coastal eddy conditions, and decent thermals, with a spectacular view overlooking downtown Santa Barbara.
